About Me

I’m a UK-based freelance writer, critic, editor and technology reporter.

I have written about art, business, science, many films and film festivals and film makers, old comics and cartoons, education and subculture.

This has been in places like Sight & Sound, The Comics Journal, Physics World, Little White Lies, Solrad, Cléo Journal, Chemistry World, Critic’s Notebook, So Film, Tripwire, The Film Talk, Marquis, and originally way back in the mists of time Comics International.

Alongside that freelance work I was an editor at IOP Publishing for its last years in the commercial magazine trade, and still contribute to the technology news website that arose from the ashes.

From time to time I have chaired and participated in panel discussions at film festivals and comic conventions, spoken at technical conferences, addressed film studies students, and a while ago wrote the press and publicity materials for a low budget fiction film shot in London and Chicago which won some awards and spawned a spin-off recording artist.

This site is part-archive and part-notebook and very roughly split into sections about:

Films
Art
Science
